"The fact is, students learn best from caring teachers with high expectations."
Through-out this article, I'm led to believe that the two students had great teachers or not- so great.
As quoted above, the district must have all caring teachers with high expectations for all students to learn best. If the district does not, then some students will fail? So, does our district have this in place.? If not, then who is responsible for hiring these teachers, a principal with the highest expectations?

    Letter to the editor:

In your Friday, July 20, 2007 Payson Roundup edition, “Your Turn” by Tom Garrett, I was completely taken a back. I agree that, “there is a lot we don’t know”, however the information in the article was incorrect.
Since I have taught physics for over ten years at the high school level from 1995 to 2005 at Payson High School, I would not like my students stating physics misconception to the unknowing masses. Tom has started his argument with just that, “a force that tends to pull an object outward – centrifugal force.” This is a fictional force. The real force is called “a centripetal force- center seeking.”
Tom was not paying attention to his teacher, which happens, his memory got turned around, or his teacher taught it wrong. Unfortunately I have seen that happen! And by his description over what followed when he asked the teacher the question about gravity, I sadly would favor the latter.
I also think that if Tom did advanced studies in the area of gravity, he would have had his question answered. Every year at least one student will ask, “What is gravity?” We do know what it is, how it behaves, and how it effects its’ surroundings and I share that with my students. I think the interesting question is, “Why is it that everything that has mass has a gravitational field around it?”
Finally, the simple truth is that science is the pursuit of The Truth!

    Hmmmmmmm???
Am I dealing with a scientific claim, which started with the father of physics, Galileo, whom proclaimed the use of experimentation to prove a claim. I don't think the people, not scientists, that stated that the earth was flat did an experiment!! The days before Galileo "science?" was called Natural Philosophy, just what one thought to be true, so it was.
The problem is todays' people use old ways to argue principles of scientific ways. It makes me sick to hear on the TV and print that it's JUST a theory, please - use the correct word- it's just a hypothesis, but they don't know how to pronounce it!!
Don't forget, in the days of flat earth, the "planets" in the night sky, where wandering STARS!

What happened to the girls team? I read in Fridays paper the the boys and girls both finished 1st from a coin toss! Then, today reading a valley paper, which is where I am now, that the boys play! But, the Payson girls where not mentioned. How did they get dropped before first round of play?? Does Dave B.know why? How does the town feel about a principal that is in control, let this great group of girls get the biggest let down in their early life feel? Is this the direction that sports wants to go?

Ask the PrinciPAL at the high school for a look at the "better?" physics lab facilities, the room, that the last money granted to improve science rooms two years ago! Don't let your jaw hit the ground as you look! As you know Dave, I had 9 computers with internet connection in the old main building and lots of probes to increase the students technology awareness. Now, Mr. Prich's old classroom IS the physics lab room!?
One drop for internet connection, and no computers for students to do their labs on, like they do at ASU,NAU,or UofA.

I voted "No", the school district needs to correct it's policy on where the monies are spent, first before we give them more. The district builds a palace for the high school administration, when most of the money WAS to be ear marked for science class rooms improvement, two years ago. VOTE NO!

This is a 'right to work' state no need for unions( teacher don't join, because school boards- like ours- don't have to recognize the union) and I had tenure, but who wants to work in an oppressive environment!
