The answer to your original question, Tom, if we could get back to that, is that a terribly important part of the Reagan holocaust consisted of demonizing people who were not Reaganistas, thus, the demonization of "liberals." I graduated, twice, almost three times, from liberal arts colleges, including the best school of journalism in the country at that time [why it is so painful to have to listen to the Hannity/Limbaugh/Haapala claims that they are journalists] and the word was, and should still be, a mark of honor. Jesus was a flaming liberal: read HIS words, the ones in red print. He didn't outlaw homos; he didn't even talk about them. He said, love everybody, even your enemies. Enemies? Even? Now there's a radical concept.

We military dudes would go to church in our uniforms, spending our every wakin hour preparing to kill the enemy, but we went to "Christian" churches which celebrated our warriorness.

Now, as far as I can tell, Jesus did not hold with that. But wait, He was angry and hateful about one group of people. [pause, reflect, wait for the answer] ding, ding, you got it kiddos. THE HYPOCRITES.

I have read thousands and thousands of words, but none more spoken and recorded in white hot anger than His about them..I will not spare ya'll the effort by repeating them here. If ya care enough to find out, there's probly a Bible right next to ya. you betcha

And they were about the politicians of his time who paraded around religious while widows and orphans were starving. Check it out; he was a major community organizer. AND HE WAS NOT WHITE.

Well, anyway, thanks be to God for the Roundup forum, Tom, Sarah Palin and all the four or five little hornets who will get totally crazy over this. All in good fun, capiche? hey, leeta, still waiting for you to show me the errors of my ways. capiche? bet i left some in here fer ya. [wink, wink]

On Why is "liberal" a slur while "conservative" isn't?

Tom, I got into this because I saw a thoughtful essay into the subject of injurious use of words. Political labels. As a language arts teacher, I could expand on this a bunch. Like down on the reservation, when the kids would call me "whiteman," after a week in Mexico, I could put my forearm up against some of thiers and mine was darker and I would say, "Who you callin white, man?" As in the universal description of our new President as a "black man" or an "African-American." He ain't neither; he a Kansan-American. or a Hawaii-American, whichever you prefer.

We are still living in the good ole jim crow days, when if you had a drop of minority blood, you were all that minority. capiche?

Now I am an Irish/Swiss-American and a language arts teacher who likes to help people "do no harm" with language, and it seems that, once again, after all these weeks, I have once again picked the scab off some festering sores and a virulent pus of language has erupted right here on your very decent blog.

Thought I could engage in some rational discourse between colleagues [hence, the word "college"], but it seems that it is not meant to be. What is with all these hateful words and statements about me, not about the topic? I will check it to you; I have much better things to do, like learning real-world lifesaving medicine.

A personal joke I have been making recently: I wasted my life trying to teach people to read and write and now I just want to be able to stop arterial bleeding or get stroke victims to a hospital in time to save what's left of their brain.

I am writing on some very beautiful sites, the best being opensalon, but on a regrettable whim, thought I would drop in on Payson. Boy, howdy, was I ever wrong. What a hornet's nest of hate. And it seems to be the same few.

Congrats, Leeta, you done run me outta here again. Good riddance to me. We will all be happier, no one more than I. [leeta, bet you think I should have written "myself."] bet you a mccain french frie that you were thinkin that vera thing, i betcha.

Hey, go to the miguelshow from here. It is actually the patshow, but entertaining nonetheless. OMG, I just wrote "nonetheless" probly illegal in Payson. Sorry, don't shoot me; just git me some mental help.

About a year ago, I wrote something concerning the materialism represented in our community by all the mcmansions sprouting up, a response to a thoughtful entry, probably by you, Tom. I even quoted Jesus on the subject. And it was this very same leeta, whoever she is, who convinced me to leave this forum by accusing me of being off the edge or something like that. Now I am getting words like "lunatic" from Dean, a lady whose logic and photos I have admired, until now.

What's up with all this? I have a knack for putting my finger right on the sore spot, but I had no idea how good I was at it until tonight. My Lord, why the hate?

Nothing has been written about my statements, just personal attacks by people who [I hope] have never met me. I live in the greater world, love Payson, but feel crazy when I dip into this tiny well of ignorant anger and, as before, will leave ya'll to yourselves. Maybe you kin git Sarah Palin to be yer next mayor. She will have to leave Alaska to avoid prison.

Fer meself, I'll be off up there with PETA to help stop the murder of wolves and all kinds of bears. I will hunt, I will kill to eat, but I will not murder innocent animals. If any of you Bible readers out there would do it thoughtfully, you would discover that Jesus don't like killin, no matter what the reason's for.

Think about it, darlins. ROGER, WILCO, OVER AND OUT.

Thanks. I finally got to laugh out loud about all this. If I wanted to take an example of mindless, emotional ranting to a writing class, this would be it. But I still like and admire your spunk, however misplaced your hatred.

Nothing for sh___head. I will pray that he doesn't ride with his attitude. Hey, sh___head, do you even ride anymore? Or do you just think you do? If you were, you would not be here being a beatch. You would be on your way to Jerome for a Sunday brunch. And I would be there with you, but I decided that I did not want to be killed by a random rock on the highway. capiche? try sandrails, way more fun.

Pat, please, why oh why would you spend the precious little time you have left reading the rantings of a "raving lunatic"? And I promise you, if you had been my student, I would have helped you not to use name-calling in writing. Maybe at third-grade recess, but not in writing. Please, stop and think about it. Did you really spend your precious lifetime doing that? Searching for things to hate me for? There is a diagnosis for that, but it is above my pay grade to make it. I can refer you to the book where you can find it.
I can say that you have many kids and grandkids and a husband who would obviously cherish every minute with you. Why not spend your time doing that instead of finding ways to attack me. And "attack" is the accurate word for what you are doing. I don't mind, really; it puts me in a large group here in our tiny town. Think I could start a support group: PAP. [People Attacked by Pat]. It rings, does it not?

But is that how you want to be remembered. I remember George, Mary Ellen, Ralph for their kindness; but wait, you are not a Randall. Who are you?

I only say this because I admire and care about you. You attack the hospital, now me, the medical community, schools, that have helped you and your family. Why not, for your own sake, calm down and stop looking for a fight, or making one where there is none? Really? But then, what would sh__head do for a living?

Hey, shovelhead, you can spell "posterior." What an accomplishment for you. Hope I don't have to wipe you up off the highway some day, with you lookin up at me in helpless gratitude. Had a Harley myself, down south, where I learned to say Hail Marys while I rode. I hope you do. I fear for arrogant bikers. They are the ones we wipe up off the road. Capiche?

How does it feel to have to read someone as smartass as you are? For once. Why not go to ADN and join in with some real hardcore "jerks." I don't use words like that, in writing, just quoting what someone wrote about me. Boy, did I put my little stick in this tiny little Payson hornet's nest. And how tiny it is, like the former Forum, and now we will have it back. Enjoy. I will be spending my time with C-Span and the dogs outdoors.

    What a waste.

What a waste of time for me, but a bunch of fun for the few curmudgeons who live here. Have not checked in for months and found the same old shovelheads shoveling. Hope ya'll enjoyed it. You won't have miguel to kick around, deja vu all over again. I'm off to Alaska.

But ya'll should send me off with a thank you fer gittin yer hormones all stirred up agin. Ain't it great to hate; love the smell of napalm in the morning. myself.

One last thought for Pat. You stated that the idea that it is no longer cool to be ignorant in Payson is "crap." I have heard and read you say many things yourself in support of good old fashioned education, the Julia Randall kind. Are you sure you even understand what I wrote before you jumped on me? You really, really need to go back and carefully read what I wrote. I wrote my statements carefully and thoughtfully and intentionally. Did you?

No one will have to ban me; I will enjoy not being a target of such personal attacks--all over again. Good thing I am not a Kansan-American with a deep natural tan or they would be saying I pal around with terrorists.

I was discussing a public radio show and the tone and substance of it. Pat and Dean have been the exceptions to my point, interestingly enough, although I know nothing of Dean's input there, just her wonderful photos and writing, and I wonder why they would get their knickers in such a twist except that this seems to be their way of life, in this forum anyway. I am only naming them because they want to jump on me, savagely. To my knowledge, I have never met either of these ladies and whatever they have to say about me, personally, as they seem to feel they can, must be based on gossip or rumor. If anyone should be banned, it should be people who use words like "nuts" and "lunatic."

So far, not one word about the topic, which was my disappointment over the abrupt displacement of Jim on the KMOG forum, and that it had actually become a forum. He is a kind and open-minded person, a professional journalist and teacher of writing, with the credentials to belong in those positions, including the Forum. What about that? I think that the viciousness of these personal attacks are proving my point. I can only assume that they are an attempt at rebuttal of my position, a defense of Dan or something. Really hard to know what is the point.

Guess there is none. Just hate. I have taught at two universities, four community college districts, including this one, have about 350 credit hours, got five more last spring and am about to get nine more, being described as an "outstanding student" by my instructor. Hey, Dean and Pat, want to put your academic credentials on the table?

I have had to hide my education to be able to gather cattle and build fences for some ranchers in my younger days because of the prejudice non-educated people seem to have against those who have some. I have wasted my time and talents by attempting to post something here instead of a really excellent site like opensalon, and I will ask Mr. Naughton personally to take this all down. How embarrassing for all of us. Before that happens, I hope that the many [maybe] people out there who see all this will see the proof of my point, shake their heads, sigh, and get a NY Times to read with their breakfasts. Exactly what I intend to do with the best biscuits and gravy in town.

That should stir up a good argument. Sayonara, ya'll. I'm off to Alaska to help stop the murdering of wolves and all kinds of bears. If ya'll are truly pro-life, join PETA and don't buy Iams dog food. And, Dean and Leeta, whoever you are, check my spelling and punctuation. I did. Bet you can find a tiny little mistake somewhere and make a big fuss about it. But, guess what? I don't care.

Kelly, you really had better go back and repair your libelous statement about me. I guess maybe it would not hold up in court because you misspelled my name, but you had better think about the fact that you publicly stated in writing what would have been in a confidential, by law, item in a personnel record. and which is being reviewed by the IRS. Do you really want to get involved in this?

Or do you live by the Tud Palin rules of making your own laws?

But you had better think about this, real fast. I am printing your statement. Now.

    Got it. Yours too, Pat.

Now it's time for an apology and a recantation. Now It's time, after all these years for me to hold someone accountable for vicious, slanderous and libelous language. My last attempt as a language arts teacher.

Are you two ready to think about it and repair the damage to me that you have done?
