Why would anyone consider voting for an existing Supervisor who made the statement that she didn't care what the people wanted, they were going to build the County Complex anyway, the vote was just about how we were going to be taxed. The overwhelming vote against this gave a message. This was just two years ago, how can we forget this? We need to send another message, as a Supervisor you work for the people.
Pat may I give you some facts that might help make sense of this issue..
Little history; The past Town employee who was responsible for the airport and who was protected by BB, (yes the same BB that is running to serve us in the House of Representatives), when she was mayor, even though he was an embarrassment to all other department heads, had indicated as a Town Department Head to the FAA that the Town already owned the 13 acres when they funded the Airport Road improvements. No contract was entered into with the Land Exchange group before the exchange was made so the Town was forced to enter into this agreement to secure the land to meet the FAA requirements. The $300,000 is FAA funded, thanks to the taxes on aircraft fuel paid by pilots, up to 95% by the FAA and ADOT. The Environmental Assessment is a requirement if more then 3 acres is purchased for Airport Improvements with a grant. The total amount to purchase the 13 + acres will be funded also by the FAA and ADOT in the future years. So even though it is part of the Town’s budget it is mostly grant funded. If the funding doesn’t materialize then the convoluted deal is canceled and I believe that only the first 3 acres will be purchased. That is what I have been told by Town Staff. Payson Regional Airport Authority (PRAA), the group that has a lease to manage Payson Airport is not part of this deal. If and when the land is purchased the management of this land will be turned over to PRAA to manage and it will be used to locate Aviation related businesses to Payson.
Just a reminder that there are two businesses in Payson that provide charter rides if someone needs to get to the Valley and doesn't want to spend a jillion hours in a car. Or if you have a friend that has an airplane and you haven't attacked the operations of the airport, maybe they could help you in your need. This is again one of the services to the community the airport provides.
CAVU Aviation 928-468-8888 and Payson Air at 928-474 5486. These are small aircraft.
Thank you from Payson Regional Airport Authority. Even though I posted the responses on my username the responses were formed by the Members of the Board and they asked me to respond.
Payson Regional Airport Authority (PRAA) is a non profit corporation awarded the lease to operate the Payson Airport. This was voted on and unanimously approved by the Town Council. PRAA has saved the Town of Payson not only money, but man hours. Though saving money is unimportant when dealing with life and death, PRAA has safeguards in place. In this instance, lack of communication was the issue.
PRAA’s management of Payson Airport has exceeded the Town’s expectations. Services have been improved to the benefit of everyone who uses the airport. PRAA will do whatever it takes to assure our citizens that this problem will not happen in the future.
There is an Operations Manager on call 24 hours a day, every day, at the posted Payson Airport Number 928-472-4748. This person will either address an issue immediately or will resolve it as soon as possible. If a telephone call had been made to that number the Manager would have responded. PRAA is responsible for issues concerning Payson Airport, not the Town. Please contact us first and if you don’t feel the issue is resolved then you have the option to contact the Town.
PRAA has been contacted by Fire Chief Marty Demasi. And Police Chief Engler has dispatched Sergeant Faust to check the operations of all the gates today.
From the information PRAA has gathered in this short period of time, this is what we think has happened on the 5th. The Fire Department and the Lifestar ambulance attempted to use cards and a key code given to all emergency entities at a gate dedicated to the Forest Service. There is a special key on the Fire Truck that would have opened that gate, but it is our understanding that was not used. Sergeant Faust tested the three normal gates by card, and by Opticon; the gates functioned properly. It is unfortunate that this happened in an emergency. PRAA will ask that a meeting be convened with all appropriate town department heads so that emergency procedures at the airport may be reviewed.
Chief, PRAA is still waiting for your telephone call with the information. We have also talked to the Fire Chief and had the Police Department check out the system. It all works as it should. There is an override system set up on the gate, but the information that was given to PRAA today, that system was not used. See following posts
For PRAA to further assist you, and to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future, we need you to assist us. If you would call the posted Payson Airport Number (928-472-4748) and give to the Operations Manager (who is on call 24 hrs each and every day) the name of the ambulance and fire department, the people involved, and the gate that was used on the 5th so that we can look into this. PRAA has already called the Fire Chief of Payson, and the Town Manager. At this time we have not received a response. Please help us help the citizens of Payson.
i am one of the Directors of Payson regional Airport Authority PRAA. This is the first any of us have heard of this issue nor have received any telephone calls. Let me assure you that PRAA is looking into this issue and we will address it on this blog and in person with the people involved.
