Actually Pat, Charlene told me all of the events she was working on, and it was a lot. Why don't you just ask her, send her an e-mail, call her, then you won't have to wonder anymore.

Pat, awhile back I asked Charlene Hunt what was going on at the "event center." I was referring to activities, not work being done. She told me about all the things she is working on, (activities) so I'm assuming all the work is in relation to that, but I'm sure Charlene will let you know.

It's not that I was offended Pat, but when you post something confrontational I cringe. I know how bad you need this forum, that's all. I know you aren't trying to make points or even care what someone thinks about something you post. I also know what John Naughton has said to you on this forum. It looks like his patience is wearing thin.

OK, I read the article. It seems to me what Max was saying was just a way to get into the subject of his article. Showing the difference between negative and positive. My guess is he read your "So What" comment about the Longhorns.

I have to say Pat, I don't think this thread is going to win you any more points with John Naughton. Oh well.

Shovelhead, it's all about money, fans, and advertisers. Monday Night Football can draw lots of big name advertisers, and has lots of fans, same with NASCAR. It's all about money. I do remember the College Bowl, thought it was very interesting. "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" is along those same lines, questions to test how much someone knows about different subjects. Thing about that show though, they have fifth graders on that panel that ware waaaay smarter than most kids that age.

I think one of the reasons the "jocks and cheerleaders" get lots of coverage is because of all the work Max Foster puts in for the Roundup. And I don't see that as a negative at all. That's what the sports section is for, that's what it's about. So what the Roundup needs is someone like Max, someone that can cover all the academic achievements, along with photos. Maybe in the next issue there will be better coverage of those achievements, maybe the Roundup can assign one of their reporters to the job, or the school itself could appoint someone to do it on a regular basis, just like Max does.
But if you will notice, last Fridays paper was a much shorter version, probably because of the holidays. Sports wasn't a separate section like it usually is, it was included in the main body of the Roundup. After the holidays it will no doubt get back to normal.

Pat, when you mentioned Monopoly it reminded me of Christmas Eve when I sat at the table with the grand kids to play Monopoly. But the board game is a lot different than it used to be. This one has a battery operated calculator, so when you buy something you give the card to the banker, they insert it in the calculator and it deducts the price, etc, it either adds or subtracts and then it keeps track of who has the most money. No one has to count money, the calculator does it for them. Different names on the board also. There are airports for instance, LAX, and there are ball fields and stadiums, etc. Seems like all the names on the board have changed.

Hey David, it's good to see you back on the forum, it's been awhile since you posted.

Your story is interesting, because it proves something I've always been a believer in. You can get along a lot better with people if you have a positive, non combative, friendly attitude. Anger out brings anger in, so the way you talked to those campers brought about wonderful results. Had you approached them with an attitude, you can bet the results would have been a lot different.

I think it's human nature to respond kindly to someone that has been nice to you. It just makes life a whole lot more pleasant if you're pleasant to others.

Of course, politicians are excluded, that is a whole other ballgame :)
