- Being an avid outdoorsman, I have been fortunate to live most of my adult life in the Payson area. One of the greatest success stories for big game has been the expansion of the Unit 22 elk herd from a relatively small number in the mid-1970s to a healthy herd which has expanded into the lower elevations.

- By the time October and November rolls around, most outdoor enthusiasts are thinking big-game hunting for deer and elk in Arizona. There is another group called the hikers who are looking for those canyons that have those perfect fall colors which will provide that spectacular scenery on a high mountain walk before the snow starts to fly.
