Walking program
September 30, 2008
Join AARP and Payson Parks and Recreation in stepping up to better health.
Walking briskly at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week, can dramatically improve your health.
Walking is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to exercise. Research has shown that regular walking can help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, arthritis and even some cancers.
The AARP’s free 10-week walking program is open to persons 50 years and over. Come join in the fun and start walking your way to better health.
The program is under way and will continue into November. It starts at 8 a.m. at the Green Valley Park, Park and Recreation Office, 1000 W. Country Club, Payson.
Participants will receive a free step-counter and participant guide. Participants are also invited to attend scheduled educational sessions on fitness, nutrition and building healthy behaviors.
To register for the program, call (928) 474-5242 ext. 7. For information, call Ginny at (928) 474-8936.
