The following tidbit is from an e-mail from the town clerk, sent to all the council members.

"I am needing to reschedule the photo shoot AGAIN for the new council because of a conflict in scheduling of some members. They will be at 9:00 a.m. May 20th sorry for all the changes. In the council chambers. Gentleman, ties required per Mr. Evans. "

GENTLEMEN, TIES REQUIRED PER MR. EVANS??

It will be interesting to see if any of the council members stand up to "Mr. Evans" and tell him they don't wear ties, and they won't take orders from Mayor Who.

Casual dress has always been favored, now Mayor Who tells them to wear ties? It kind of makes his statement: "I'm just an old farm boy" look more ridiculous than it did before.

Or a poor cowboy that wears alligator or snake skin boots.
I wonder which is required boots or shoes?

Posted by Goldplay (Dean Shields) on May 10, 2008 at 3:29 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Yeah, he forgot to tell them what kind of shoes are "required." Or maybe that will come later.

He did give one of the council members permission to wear a bolo tie. Isn't that nice of him?

I'm hoping Rick Croy and Mike Vogel tell him they don't own a tie, and they don't intend to go buy one. But I'll bet they don't. I bet they wear a tie.

What a crock! Past council member photos show members in casual dress, and a couple in ties, but I'll bet they didn't ever receive an e-mail saying ties were required, per the mayor elect!

Does this sound like a good way to start off? Am I wrong in thinking he has a lot of nerve "requiring" members to dress a certain way? Wouldn't it have been better to ASK if they would wear a tie? But to say a tie is required just isn't a good way to start off.

I'm keeping score you know :)

Why is he telling them what to do anyway? He hasn't taken the oath and has no more power than anyone else.
If he was the sworn in mayor I think he would be breaking the open meeting law by sending the emails.
Maybe he should be reading the opening meeting law instead of giving orders already.

Here we go again, start saying things allready. oboy, oboy 2 years of this.

The tie thing what's the big deal, these people are running the town to me they should look the part.

I see the boots were brought back up ( SO WHAT ) If he likes that kind and can afford them more power to him, and did you ask him what kind they are, or you think that is what they are.

Is this the picture for the council that will take over at the end of the month? if so to me he should have a little say in it.

The pictures of the council that have been on the website have always looked quite nice.
These are grown, supposed to be intelligent people. Isn't that why they were elected?
They can look nice with out being told how to dress by a 'poor ole farm boy'
If he is going to tell them how to dress before he takes office, that is a bad omen to me.

In my opinion there is nothing that looks dumber than being all dressed up in a suit and tie with pair of boots unless it is a western suit.

He has already told two lies or was misquoted in the paper about what I say or do. Why ask what kind of boots they are?
I am not blind or stupid Steve, in spite of what you may think.

It is going to be a long two years for you if you nit pick at me for everything I say about the mayor elect or council.
I have been doing it for quite a few years and I don't intend to stop.
You can just skip over my posts. (:

The commander always dictates the uniform of the day ladies.

"He has already told two lies or was misquoted in the paper..."
After reading the paper for a day or two I think I would lean toward the misquote.

Posted by patrandall (pat Randall) on May 11, 2008 at 3:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I did not realize a mayor was a commander, but I am sure this one will try to be. I think there is a difference in a leader and a commander, or dictator.

As to the misquote, there were two really BIG ones in one article if that is what it was.
Mr. Naughton was going to speak to his reporter and get back to me, but so far haven't heard from anyone. Evans has not denied saying it.

All interviews should be recorded then there is no doubt about who said what.
I learned that many years ago dealing with the Forest Service.
Not Ed Armenta! He is one of the good guys. He was not here at the time.

I'm not sure a shirt and tie would constitute a uniform but it sure would insure uniformity for the picture!

As far as violating the open meeting law, which part of requiring a tie for a photograph does the violation fall under? You are acting like an ambulance chasing lawyer Pat. It's only a photo for the wall not a billboard for the roundabout!

Posted by hot1 (marylou HAUGHT) on May 11, 2008 at 5:34 p.m. (Suggest removal)

So Pat it is all right for you to say things and no one else

so what you say is right , and if someone says something about it you get mad

and if someone else says something that you do not like then the people that wrote it is wrong and you get mad at what was wrote

most places that people work there is a dress code or the boss says what can or cannot be worn

no way to win but it is fun

have a nice mothers day

Shovelhead,
You just lost your spot as leader around the round about.
Sending email to all councilors and expecting a reply is the same as being in the same room talking to them with out it being posted there may be a quoram.
Breaking the open meeting law

Steve,
I don't mad, I get even !

Posted by DonEvans (don evans) on May 11, 2008 at 6:09 p.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm ok with the ties, as long as the women have to wear them too!
Do you think they all may have to wear "Holy" underwear????

Posted by Shovelhead (Mike McLaughlin) on May 11, 2008 at 6:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)

They're not discussing town business They're getting a picture taken for cryin out loud! A photo op does not constitue a meeting of the council.

I can't believe you relieved me from my roundabout position just because I disagreed with you! :)

Posted by patrandall (pat Randall) on May 11, 2008 at 7:25 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Shovelhead,
I'll bet you there will be a posting on the board at Town Hall that there is going to be a picture taken and there may/will be a quorum.

I just felt mean to day. I might give it back. (:

Don,
I don't think this is the place to start in on religion.
But, since you did. Only the really devout LDS members are allowed.
So knock it off ! Religion is a very private thing and no religion should be made fun of because of politics or any other reason .

Posted by Goldplay (Dean Shields) on May 11, 2008 at 7:50 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Shovelhead, this isn't the military. Were talking about the Payson Town Council. I think it would be appropriate for the Town Manager to REQUEST everyone to wear a tie for a picture, but it is NOT APPROPRIATE for some guy that isn't even mayor yet, hasn't even been sworn in, to REQUIRE all the guys to wear a tie.

Hey guys, all you council members, grow a backbone and tell Kenny Who to go pound sand!!!

Please?

Posted by Shovelhead (Mike McLaughlin) on May 11, 2008 at 9:33 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Do we want or need a 2 year pi**in contest in the council?. When the ( I started to say man in charge) Mayor or Mayor elect makes a reasonable request it should be honored.
Defying a reasonable request doesn't necessarily show backbone.

"I think it would be appropriate for the Town Manager to REQUEST everyone to wear a tie for a picture..."

Dean, isn't the Mayor higher up in the pecking order than the town manager?

Posted by patrandall (pat Randall) on May 11, 2008 at 10:46 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Shovelhead,
Like there hasn't been with the last 4 mayors and council? Where have you been my child? (:

I read the email as saying ties are required. Not, will you please all wear ties?

According to old man Webster:
require: to demand.
request: ask for something.

BIG DIFFERENCE

Look at the last picture, who gives a s--- if they have ties on. They are the same person underneath.

Posted by patrandall (pat Randall) on May 11, 2008 at 10:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Ties will not cover up what is underneath !

Posted by Goldplay (Dean Shields) on May 12, 2008 at 9:33 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Shovelhead, I've put up with 2 years of a pi**ing contest, now It's my turn to jump on every little thing the mayor elect does. He's already given me reason to question his actions, even before he won the election.

Pat can tell you more about pecking orders, but I think the Town Manager has way more authority than the mayor, much less mayor elect. Even at that, I doubt if the manager would ever dream of REQUIRING them to wear ties.

The key word is REQUIRE. Who does he think he is? The e-mail was sent to all the council members by the Town Clerk, so obviously he TOLD her to add: Gentlemen, ties REQUIRED per Mr. Evans. I bet she loved that, being told to do something. By someone that has no authority to tell her anything.

And Steve, am I wrong in believing had this been done when Bob Edwards won the last election, had he told the Town Clerk to tell the council they were required to wear ties for the photo shoot, you and all of his detractors would have raised holy He**?

Like I said, it's my turn now. The fun is just beginning. :)

It appears all anyone can say at this point is have fun.

Now you got it !
I am sure it won't be one month before we all have a really good laugh with our new leaders.

Posted by msmike2003 (Mikey Kerns) on May 13, 2008 at 9:53 p.m. (Suggest removal)

It works 2 ways, folks. I was recently requested to wear a dress for an occasion - no chance - don't own one.

Posted by patrandall (pat Randall) on May 13, 2008 at 10:30 p.m. (Suggest removal)

My 21 year old grandaughter is getting married the end of this month.
I was at thier house the other day and she asked me if I had a dress to wear.
I wear them so seldom, but I know she has seen me in one.

If the million dollar singers can wear ragged levis with thier rears and knees hanging out what is wrong with having your picture taken with no tie?
This is not Washington D.C or Yuma.

This is Payson the town with the Western Heritage.
Why not all wear Stetson Hats?

Posted by Goldplay (Dean Shields) on May 14, 2008 at 9:35 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Mikey, I still remember the day I saw a woman in the old Walmart parking lot, wearing a DRESS. That was back in the 70's, and all we wore were jeans and "waffle stompers." (lace up low heel boots with heavy tread) It was a real shock, and she looked so out of place everyone was staring sat her.

Did you buy a dress to go to the affair?

Posted by hot1 (marylou HAUGHT) on May 14, 2008 at 3:39 p.m. (Suggest removal)

If you two think this is the town with the western heritage, you better start looking around. The only thing that looks western is the bank bldg that is empty and Chilies. the rest of this town is what ever. All the empty bldgs don't help.In fact I think this town is starting to look a little trashy.Another thing, why has the round about not been finished? It looks like hell and now it sounds like they are planning another one and it will probably look as bad. When it goes in just listen to the griping about all the traffic on McLane. The people that hate the damn round abouts will travel down McLane to get to Home Depot,toI just get out of town going north.Just beause Sedona has them and Camp Verde, does Payson have to fall in line with other towns. Can't we have a little bit of common sense. The most of the people that are spoken to ,don't seem to want them. Also it seems to me that it will hurt truck traffic big time. This is one oy your buddies Stack committe that is recommending them.Another case of people coming here from other places and wanting to change Payson to be like the towns they moved from.

Posted by patrandall (pat Randall) on May 14, 2008 at 8:05 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Marylou,
Don't you understand my sarcasm?

I am not the one that came up with 'Payson the town with the western heritage. ' I do think Stetsons would be better than the ties.

Posted by DonEvans (don evans) on May 15, 2008 at 10:46 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Pat, if you can't see the humor in the underwear comment, well to bad for you. If the best you can do is gripe about a group photo requireing ties be worn, your quest to chastize the town about cracks in sidewalks now takes second place in your public history absurdity.
As for religion, it has caused more grief in world history than any other reason. A little religious humor takes the edge off. Unless your a zelot.

Posted by patrandall (pat Randall) on May 15, 2008 at 11:34 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Don,
I would really like to tell you what I think of you and where you can go, but I don't want to be kicked off the board because of someone else's stupidity.

I said before everyone's religion is a private thing and no one should make fun of something they know nothing about. Most people believe in something but it is no one else's business.

Posted by DonEvans (don evans) on May 16, 2008 at 10:48 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Pat, I've been told by bigger and better than you. And I've been where you would like me to go. But they kicked me out!

Posted by patrandall (pat Randall) on May 17, 2008 at 12:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Thats bad, when you get kicked out of hell !

Posted by hot1 (marylou HAUGHT) on May 18, 2008 at 7:47 p.m. (Suggest removal)

To me these people are the spokes persons for the town, they all should look the park, when a picture is taken of all of them, you do not know who will see it were it's on the web, Every one want the town to look good, you start at the top and go down.

Fix the broken and clean up the town, then start on beautification of the council.

Posted by Goldplay (Dean Shields) on May 19, 2008 at 2:23 p.m. (Suggest removal)

A couple of the council members will look totally out of character and uncomfortable in a tie, and should NOT be told to wear one. Then will it be all department heads have to start wearing one?

It's a ridiculous requirement, and his suggestion to double the pay for council and mayor is ridiculous also.
