Maybe Evans raised over $5000.00 with contributions under $25.00? He won't show the paper work if he has it, and he was told to keep it in case he needed it later. He will take phone calls. Wonder why he was told he should keep it in case it was needed later? If it was already written down why didn't he turn it in? Doesn't look to good to me that it wasn't all turned in with the rest of the contributions. Kind of a little gray cloud. JUST AN OPINION !
Pat, I agree with you. It would be best if the detail documentation would be turned in. If the backup documentation supports the financial report submitted, this should all go away. But it seems unusual for a candidate to average contributions across all attendees to an event to get an average contribution.
I have a great deal of respect for Sylvia and the rest of town staff but understand it would be difficult to rule against an incoming elected official. In my opinion this would have been best for all for it to have been assigned to an outside investigator.
Even with a plethora of "small" contributions, it looks like the Mayor Elect wanted the job bad enough to spend $11,000 of his own money plus a pretty large amount of other peoples money to buy the job. Sounds like he wasn't real confident of beoing the voter's choice.
On the other hand he is accustomed to working with Washington and Phoenix VIP's for so long, he probably thought it best to make a flashy show of finances.
I agree with Shovelhead - Sylvia is the decider, but I agree with you ,Pat, he ought to do the right thing. Maybe this shows something of the personal ethical values.
Pat If you are so worryed about the money, i would bite the bullet and ask him to see the paper work, he had all the paper work to turn in by the paper, and Sylvia did not want all of it. So he gave her just what she needed.
If he has nothing to hide, and if he HAD nothing to hide, why is he refusing to turn the documents in now? I think HE should be the one to bite the bullet, take the damn documents to Town Hall, give them to Sylvia, and be done with it. As much time as he's spending at Town Hall anyway, why not just turn in the papers?
Maybe he thinks he's above all this, but to me it shows a certain arrogance, if he has the papers, why not just turn them in?
We're talking about $5,000 dollars, and no public record of where the $5,000 came from. If he has the records, but just doesn't want to turn them in, makes it look like he's hiding something. Or he thinks he doesn't have to answer to the citizens he is supposed to represent.
What a great way to start his term as mayor. (and excuse me while I gag)
Steve, He did not say he would show me the papers', I was to call him and he would talk to me on the phone. Once again you don't know the complete circumstances.
Why would it take one hundred pages to list five hundred something names from 38 meetings???? There are 29 lines on a legal pad and two rows of names would make about ten pages or 40 pages at the most if all 38 meetings were on seperate pages.
It s like the goverment, to say one thing it takes 500 pages , me i could say it in about 2 pages, people might not like it. but say what you mean, If i was so worryed about this i would set up a meeting with Sylvia and the mayor to be and get it all out, but thats me. thats why i say what i say i would ask to meet and get it all out in the open. not just keep saying thing on the blog. A face to Face meeting you might not like what was said but it would be out, and this could go away.
Pat i don't care ( what he said , she said ,what the paper said or ethics.) everybody was dirty and saying things in this run for the mayor and that means everybody, just like i said above i would talk one on one, but thats me, I understand what you said, it does not matter what they say you are not going to belive anythiny what anybody says about this. so why not let it go . give the person a change, we gave the mayor a change and now there is a new one, so in 2 years get the new out and put someone else in.
Steve, it's obvious you don't care. But think of this.. In the last election, (not this one) had Bob Edwards turned in a campaign financial report with $5000 in donations with no names listed, or amounts, and he was asked about it and he said Oh, I just "passed the hat". Do you think for one minute that wouldn't have been challenged? And if he had the paperwork, do you think for one minute he would have refused to turn the papers in?
How can you ask us to give Kenny Who a chance when he won't play by the rules everyone else plays by, or when he won't satisfy a simple request, or when he says things to a newspaper that is an absolute lie, (about Pat Randal).
How hard would it be for him to say "Sure, I have the papers, I gave them to Sylvia." He is being difficult, and that is no way to start out. He seems to think he doesn't have to answer to ANYONE. Boy, is he in for a big surprise.
Steve, It is evident you don't care about ethics. He would talk to me on the phone not show me the paperwork. Why is that so hard for you to understand? I believe what I see written down by an honest person or said by an honest person.
I AM NOT QUESTIONING SYLVIA'S INTEGRITY, HONESTY OR ETHICS.
Sylvia is caught in the middle of a big mess!
I said before I wouldn't respond to you and this is the last time on this subject. You believe what you want to even tho you don't have most of the facts. You don't even live in town so don't what you think you will get out of all this. Have a great day!
A formal request for an independent investigation should be made to the proper authorities. Then the paperwork in question could be examined. When the investigation is concluded the findings should be made public.
end of story!
unless you want to pursue the appeals route :)
Without the above taking place it's just a ____________!
Shovelhead, There was a formal complaint hand delivered to Town Attorney's office with copies sent to Gila County Attorney, State Attorney.

Filled out a formal request for papers, was told Evans was bringing them in. When I went to pick them up, was told he said to call him on the telephone and he would talk to me. I don't want to talk. I want to see the papers which should be a matter of public records. If there are papers and they have the information what is the big deal for him to turn them in?
I think State Statutes should overrule a handbook put out by the League of Cities.
That's my opinion, and I am sticking to it until hell freezes over or I am proved wrong. (:
So now that i do not live in town i do not here anything or no nothing, Pat you have brought this up before so no one that lives out side of town can not say anything about what goes on because the outsiders no nothing, sounds like all the people that does not live in town should start buying all there goods some where else, and see what impack this would do to the town. would not be good i bet.
I have posted on here more than once that if all the surrounding communitees would pick one day and all of them NOT shop for anything in Payson, that the town would see a big impact on thier sales tax for that day if there was someway of tracking it. Better yet pick a whole week. I'm sure the businesses could provide the info if they wanted to.
It would also help the local businesses if the Town of Payson bought more of their vehicles and supplies locally!!
I have not said people out of town should not have an opinion, only have the facts before they post. Same as with the people that live in town.
The ones in town that b---- the loudest are usually the ones that don't get off thier rear to vote. Yes, I have voted every election since I moved back permantly. Before that I voted in Tonto Basin as I lived there most of the 6 yrs. between 1994 and 2000 even tho I owned a house in Payson.
Pat It seems to me when anyone disagrees with you,you go on the defensive, and accuse them of not knowing the facts,I guess that makes you the perfect person who knows every thing. I can't understand why the money part of the election should mean any thing to you.Its not your money and all this does is keep stiring up trouble. You and Dean both need to find some thing else to gripe about. You have a new mayor so live with it.From what I've heard you were the same way when you lived in Tonto, and I know that for a fact. This is one of the reasons why I don't blog much as I get tired of all the same Bull S---.There ought to be alot more to gripe about then the election, which is over..
Marylou, There are a lot of things on here I don't agree with but don't say anything. I have never said I was perfect. I do research my facts before I go on here. I know the money is not mine, but it does concern me when the candidate does not want people to know who gave it to him. If the contributions had been turned in the proper way there would not have been anything said.
I was not into politics in Tonto Basin, I was to busy running a business. I did not start the problem with John Dryer. Two other people filed the complaint, then I helped them with the research on how much money was stolen after they asked me to. He had 6 felonies filed against him by a grand jury. THAT IS A FACT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE PAPERS ! But we do live in Gila county and you know how things work here.
First you said you heard I was the same way in Tonto, then stated it was a fact. Which way is it. Fact or rumor? So once again your facts are probably screwed up.
If no one responds to my post they just go away, but someone always seem to want to argue when they don't really know all the information.
Since you know so much about what we did in Tonto Basin, Check to see who gave the most money to get the medical center started, Bought medical equipment for a 3 exam drs. office including examining tables, stools, BP cuffs, ear examing equipment, EKG machine, waiting room chairs, table and chairs for lunch room, ref. and other things which all evaporated , with no trace.
Check to see who owns the land where the Joe Hardt Marine Corp. League has thier meeting room, museum, art gallery, and park at no charge for the last 10 or so years. They did pay taxes on the land this last year.
Who furnished all the food and soda pop for a barbecue and auction to raise money for fuel to clean out the creek at no charge to anyone?
Who furnished a building for the AA group to meet in, the Kiwanis Club to have thier yearly eye exams and the old men's poker room?
Who usually spent the most money on auction items at other fund raisers?
Who paid for hotel rooms for women, when thier husband beat them.
Let strangers eat when they had only credit cards and trusted them to send back the money. They always did !
Get off it Pat, you are getting boring. If you are serious that you must have this list of donors to Kenny Evans campaign, that Sylvia Smith said was not needed, I will try to get the list from Kenny and personaly deliver it to you.
You have forgot that Bob Edwards & his groups collected far more than Kenny did to defeat Barbara Brewer. You were absolutely silent at that time.
I agree with Hot 1, the election is over, and the majority of the voters have spoken. Any more dialog now is sour grapes!
NO ONE HAS TO RESPOND TO ANYTHING I PUT ON HERE ! IF I AM BORING DON'T READ IT.
APRIL 25th SOMEONE ELSE STARTED IT UP AGAIN, NOT ME . THEY SEEM TO WANT THE DIALOG TO KEEP GOING. LET'S SEE WHAT KIND OF SWEET WINE HE MAKES OUT OF THE SOUR GRAPES.
I was only answering thier comments.
The last 2 posts above this one had nothing to do with the election from me. We were talking about something else.
As usual you didn't add in the various PAC's from both sides of the campaign. Thank you for the "nice to see you back" I never left. Just a few months in hospitals, care centers, and physical therapy. Feeling great, and have gained back enough weight, that I have reached my fight'n weight!
Gordon, are you talking about your PAC, Citizens for Payson's Economic Future ,raising $16760 to bash Edwards. ? Are we counting that as campaign contributions?
But whoever raised more than whoever, it doesn't compare with the amount of money Kenny Who poured into getting elected. In my opinion it seems like overkill, and I don't see how you can argue with that. For a town this size, the money spent on this election is outrageous. I don't like to see it in local politics, state politics, or national. But I have to admit I am truly FED UP with politics, and what people are willing to do, and what they are willing to spend, to get elected.
But beyond that, I'm glad you're back to your fighting weight, I need someone to fight with.
Pat, The answer to your 3 identical questions is , NOTHING! As far as mental therapy is concerned, I tried it, and the Doctor gave up, and refered me to yours, You Doctor turned me down because he said he had a patient that was taking up a lot of his time, and he could not take on any more patients. Could you give me a referal, as you are a native here and must know all of that type of Doctors here. I would appreciate it.
Gordon, I knew you didn't understand, you don't have to read my posts.
There is a phychitrist (spelled wrong) At Rim Valley Guidance. You must have a case worker or be referred by the court. Go get arrested !
I have never been there but like to keep informed.
Anything else you would like to know?
Wait until the new mayor takes office, he has made the comment he has helped the seniors here in Payson. Maybe he will have more information on mental health.
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! I will have to admit that you are the smartest, most inteligent, khow-it-all in the Rim Country. OOPS!! I almost said in the world, but, I can safely say, (MAYBE IF PAT DOESN'T OBJECT) in Arizona.
Try to smile Pat, it does'nt hurt!
85alum,
How would I know, Pat says I never read anything. But I believe she would gladly explain it to you if you get her mad enough.
I know this statement will have you jumping up & down with joy. I am taking a sabbatical leave from this blog for maybe more than a year to enjoy life, without this blog, with my cars & Jeep, travel a bit, and enjoy my family.
Mike, Which post are you referring to? I do not have to get mad to explain something if I know the answer.
Gordon, Thank you, I finally got my point across to you. The smart part. (:
Even with all the health problems of my family I still manage to smile a lot. Even thru the tears. Mostly I smile at your posts. There is nothing funnier than having a battle of wits with someone who is only half equipped.
Enjoy your year of traveling and enjoy yourself. We never know when enjoyment will go away. I mean this sincerely.
Gordon, I'll miss your point of view. Enjoy your time with yourself, your family and the things that make you happy. Life brings us choices and I like to hear that people prioritise their time. God Bless, Leeta
Leeta, Sometimes we don't have a choice. My husband and I thought we were going to have a great retirement. Spending our time doing what we wanted with our kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Going to our grandson's races and enjoying things with our family.
I had to put my husband in a nursing home last week. He doesn't know any of his kids, grandkids or my name after 58 yrs of knowing me and being married 56 yrs. So much for choices.
As I said to Gordon, and I did mean it, enjoy the moment.
Pat, We all have choices to make, even if it's not the choice we want. I think you made the right choice. Sorry to say that we aren't always in control of how we want our lives to play out. I feel for you. And I'll pray that life may bring you some relief. I know it's very hard to be a constant care giver and when that burden is lifted, I hope you feel some freedom. It's not wrong to sigh...
Pat, I wish you all the best. I was the care giver for my father for his last 10 years. His last two were in the old manzanita manor. His mind was still great and believe it or not he was very happy there. Made it to almost 91! Then I took care of his wife (my step mother) for another 5 years, then 3 years in payson care center. Not the easiest person to like but I felt it was my obligation. Again, all the best.
Such things are a very heart wrenching decision, we had to put my father in law in a nursing home before we came to Payson, he was to the point where he did not know my wife, he actually thought she was dead and she was her own cousin. Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Pat,
I agree with you.

He OR the newspaper LIED about saying I wrote letters to the Gazette and also that I said I would make his life miserable months ago.

After this length of time he has had time to get signed affadavits from everyone at his little parties.

Who usually spent the most money on auction items at other fund raisers?
Who paid for hotel rooms for women, when thier husband beat them.
Let strangers eat when they had only credit cards and trusted them to send back the money. They always did !

C'mon Marylou,
Did you check any of the above post out? Didn't think so.

HELLO OUT THERE.

Gordon, far more?
Brewer raised $15700
Edwards raised $20200
It's so nice to see you back.

Dean,
As usual you didn't add in the various PAC's from both sides of the campaign.
Thank you for the "nice to see you back" I never left. Just a few months in hospitals, care centers, and physical therapy. Feeling great, and have gained back enough weight, that I have reached my fight'n weight!

Pat,
You have been capable of making a lot of things out of sour grapes. Keep it up!
Posted by Goldplay (Dean Shields) on May 2, 2008 at 5:33 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Shovelhead,
I'm with you
Pat,
The answer to your 3 identical questions is , NOTHING!

Gordon,
I knew you didn't understand, you don't have to read my posts.

Pat,
Actualy, I don't read your posts completely. Too much flame and smoke, especialy a lot of smoke, to be able to read it all. It burns my eyes!

Gordon,
We already knew you never read the complete posts of anyone, because of the dumb responses you make.
You should try reading the complete posts and you may learn some facts and truth. I don't try to blow smoke up anyone's you know what.

Pat,
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!
ADIOS FOR GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike,
Which post are you referring to?
I do not have to get mad to explain something if I know the answer.
Gordon,
Thank you, I finally got my point across to you.

Gordon,
I'll miss your point of view. Enjoy your time with yourself, your family and the things that make you happy. Life brings us choices and I like to hear that people prioritise their time.
God Bless,
Leeta

Leeta,
Sometimes we don't have a choice.

Pat,
We all have choices to make, even if it's not the choice we want.

Don, and Leeta
Thank you.
If there is a mind there is hope !
Where do you turn when there isn't?

Pat,
Such things are a very heart wrenching decision, we had to put my father in law in a nursing home before we came to Payson, he was to the point where he did not know my wife, he actually thought she was dead and she was her own cousin. Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
