I just got back from the 47th annual Yuma Prison Run. A great time was to be had by all. Bike games, vendors, and live music.
Anyway back to the gas...66.00 to go to Yuma and back by Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Dateland AZ. Exxon station, premium was 3.90 a gallon. Are we having fun now?
I need to find a way to squeeze a few more miles per gallon! The little trailer seems to drop my mileage more than I thought it would. It may have been my speed that ate up the gas. Between them both I only got 30 to 33 mpg. Next trip I think I will stay below 60 well maybe 65 and see what happens.
Did you hear about the run to the Tonto Natural Bridge this weekend? I suspect the Buffalo will realize some increase in business.
Like your cartoons. The one with the little car and big car. Not always true. I had a F150 pickup double seat, with camper shell. 18 or better miles to the gal. Bought a Pt Cruisers between 14 and 17! What a shocker.
I remember when I could fill up my vehicle with less than $5.00. Cigarettes were only twenty cents a pack. 2 cartons at the Rez are now $99.70.
So why do you think it's so high? In 2001, gasoline was $1.50 per gallon. In 2008, it's $4.00/gallon. Not heard yet of an oil company going out of business, but we lost some airlines recently.
Crude oil is obviously higher, but the oil companies' profits have grown as well, which is incredible. In any other industry, when the price of your main input goes up, your profit goes down. Example: Airlines. The opposite is happening here.
They have maintained margins in the areas of refining and marketing and distribution fees and have kept pace with the growth in the price of crude oil. This means we're getting hit not just with the increased price of crude, but also with the greed from the oil companies who now receive 3x what they got to refine a gallon of gas in 2000. Do you really think it costs them 3x more to refine gasoline than it did in 2000?
Oh, and US energy companies receive generous government subsidies. Why do you need to subsidize a clearly profitable industry?
This Republican administration has caused this with its poor energy policies and complicity with energy companies interests. Every idiot that voted for Bush-Cheney deserves the blame for this. It's what you get when you elect oil men.
I'm sure glad they saved us from teh gay marriages.

Shovelhead,
You are going to have to give up your motor bike and get one with pedals. (:

When cigarettes went over a dollar a pack I said so long and haven't been a bit sorry.
